In 2020, wheat production in India, including Gujarat, may break a record for the second consecutive year. The Gujarat government had set a target of producing 43.64 lakh tonnes of wheat in 13.83 lakh hectares in 2019-20. An average production of 3155 kg per hectare was also expected. In 2018-19, the Gujarat government had estimated production of 3019 kg per hectare with 24 lakh tonnes in 7.97 lakh hectares. Seeing the attitude of the farmers, all these records will be broken in 2020. With this, traders will not give prices to farmers. Wheat was sown in 16.11 lakh hectares in 2010-11. No wonder if the 10-year record is broken this time. Due to soil moisture this year, planting of non-irrigated wheat may also increase. Last year there were wheat in 1.3 million hectares.

Export

Exports will be 1 million tons or less than 1 percent. So the price will be cut. The government must declare subsidies on exports or both the government and farmers will be beaten. It exported 2.26 lakh tonnes of wheat in 2018-19 and 6.5 million tonnes in 2012-13. India exported 226,225 tonnes of wheat in the financial year 2018-19 ended March 31. In 2012-13, it stood at 6.5 million tonnes.
